The most famous poet of Sweden, Tomas Transtromer has bagged the Nobel Prize in literature this year. The 80-year old writer, who retired from writing, was a continuous favorite to win the award for many years, but, he has finally made it this time. Transtromer, currently partially paralyzed after suffering a stroke more than 2 decades ago, had one syllable answers to most of the questions that he was asked after the announcement was made. His wife Monica however accompanied him to fill in the details.

According to Monica, the announcement came as a big surprise for both her and Tomas. She also added despite all the speculations over the years, Tomas himself never took it seriously. However, she added that the biggest satisfaction for Tomas is that after 1996, for the first time, the prize has been given to a poet.

Tomas’s poems, mostly explores the mysteries of one’s mind with powerful imagery. He has written mainly on ordinary periods of change in nature, but with a different visionary, that makes his works stand apart.
